The Power of Digg and Video

The power of Digg.com is undeniable!

Do you want to make a lot of money???

Here is an idea for you. It’s not original. I simply analyzed a site that is kicking butt.

CSPANJUNKIE can barely serve pages it is getting so much traffic.

So how can we do it???

Make a topical site and put topical content in videos you post on youtube with your web address on the screen.

This site cspanjunkie.org does nothing more than record tv and post videos on their site and youtube (maybe other places too). They record video from CSPAN, Bill Maher etc.

Then they post on youtube and use DIGG to get the word out

In this case they recorded Bill Maher from his HBO show Real Time.

They posted this video on youtube and listed it on DIGG and now the sucker has 5,445 diggs and 132,702 plays on youtube which pimps their url predominantly on the video screen.

Their site barely came up. It must be getting hammered with traffic. After 10 minutes I saw the page but it hadbroken icons and such. It’s not a pretty site and looks like it is doing good with Adsense.

This is the page at youtube.com that has the videos listed that are getting buzz today.

A look at the site www.cspanjinkie.org shows it basically lists youtube videos with video from cspan and other political topics and is getting huge traffic - it looks like mainly from digg and youtube.

Listing at digg for the Maher video is #2 last 24 hours

Simply copy their idea and build a topical site. Then post video clips with a litle commentry and stir people up… Also you must start getting links pointing at the site and using digg and such and you’ll likely have an avalanche of traffic before you know it.

While you may not want to do a political site - simply take what you can from this winning example and modify it to work within your areas of interest.

  1. Mike:

Good post! There are so many aspects to 2.0, and this is a great reminder to marketers that they should leverage everything that’s available - within means, of course - to build their brand.

We wrote a post on our blog about the uptick in online video advertising. Perhaps your readers will have interest in that as well. You can find it on our blog, Hiring The Internet. Keep up the great work!
