XML sitemaps are useless if there’s no optimized robots.txt file (and the other way around). In my years of optimization, XML sitemaps are very helpful especially when you want to hasten indexing of your site. Having one won’t do any harm, and in your case, it may not do any good.

Hhhmmm, seems as though what search engine optimizers don’t want people to know is that it assists in faster indexing, as stated by Google in it’s own webmaster central within its suggested best practices.
