Blog Linking 101

I have a mini course on blog linking plus a complimentary blog you can practice linking in! Details below! Blog Linking 101!

Are you getting links that point to ALL of your URL’s?

Are you just linking to your home page URL, or are you getting good quality links pointing at your deep inside pages???

Blog Linking 101 suggests that you spread the love and link to ALL of your important pages - not just one or a few of them!

You’ll enjoy more top rankings and lots of extra traffic if you do!

The secret to getting traffic to your deep inside pages is having great quality backlinks pointing at them with keywords that are on the pages!

Did you know that Article Underground has over 35 Article Announcements blogs you could get links in, plus over 80 member contributed blogs?

That’s well over 100 domains that could be pointing at your web pages!

Here is a short mini course on Blog Linking 101!

Do you know what a URL is?

It’s good to know.

AU members can link to each of their URL’s in over 100 blogs!

It’s simple - but confusing if you did not know exactly what a URL is.

Let’s go over it just in case there is still any confusion.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator

A URL is the address of a web page or document on the web.

It could be the home page or an “inside page” such as an article or a blog post page.

When you give someone a URL you are telling them the exact location so they can type it in their browser and find the specific page.

The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use, ie

http://

or

http://www.

etc.

The second part specifies the domain name or IP address. ie

my-domain-name.com

or

216.55.19.14

A web page could possibly be the third part of a URL, ie

/index.html

or

my-web-page-name.html

If you are referring to the home page of a domain you most likely will NOT include the page part - index.html - although you could if you wanted. However, as I have shown in AU training, it is redundant to refer to the home page with the index.html part and if the search engines see BOTH POSSIBLE VERSIONS (URL’s) of the same identical page, the value of each URL will be dilluted.

For example, if Google finds two URL’s for my HOME PAGE the value of each will be diminished

example:

http://www.articleunderground.com/index.html

and

http://www.articleunderground.com/

Both of the above URL’s show exactly the same data - so if Google indexes and catalogs both pages - the JUICE of your HOME PAGE will be significantly impacted.

They will not usually find the /index.html URL unless there is a link out there they crawl that deviates from the standard home page URL of

http://www.articleunderground.com/

Many newbie webmasters make the mistake of linking both ways, or a link partner or competitor will link to you that way.

You can correct this by adding some code to your .htaccess file (advanced technique - covered in the AU member forum) which will redirect the visitor or spider to the proper version (without
index.html)

That way you are protected even if links point to your site with both URL’s.

This same “duplicate home page” problem can also occur when you use both http:// and http://www. for linking.

ie

http://www.articleunderground.com/

and

http://articleunderground.com/

Both of the above URL’s also point at the same home page.

Pick one or the other - with www or without - do not link to URL’s with and without the www. That will screw things up and further dilute the value of the home page and even article page URL’s.

OK, well that’s enough on that confusing topic. It’d be much easier if they conformed to simpler standards when the web first started, but now we are stuck with it.

Now that you know what a URL is - let’s look at it in the context of the AU Announcements Blogs.

Article Underground’s article announcements blogs are the easy way to get links for ALL of your article page URL’S!

Did you know that when you make a post in an AU blog and you check off 5 categories for example, you will get approximately 8 to 10 backlinks?

You’ll get a link on the home page, the monthly archive pages PLUS each of the category pages. ONE POST can give you links on several pages, as many as 8 or 10 depending on how many categories you checked off.

There are like 35 + AU blogs now, and over 80+ member blogs - so instead of hammering the same blogs for links - spread the love!

That’s over 100 places to get backlinks from!

You can try getting some nice backlinks for free on our new complimentary AU Blog

www.IWantMyFreeSite.com/

You’ll see how easy it is to get great quality links pointing at your URL’s!

  2. Great review on the components of an URL. You would think that Google would count both example.com and example.com/index.html as the same page. It would be a very easy fix for them and would lead to more accurate SERPS.

  3. Great article. I just started learning about backlinking. I had no idea it was so important. I also heard though that you should watch which sites you deal with or you could end up ranked 0. Be careful! Thanks Again!
