News and information for online web publishing professionals!
Your Domain’s Home Page is Like a Magazine Cover!
Think of your web sites home page as a magazine!
Your HOME page is the COVER or TABLE of CONTENTS and should get people to the pages that will make you the most money!
I would first try to build the sites front page so it accomplishes YOUR goals of getting visitors TO your most important ARTICLE PAGES.
So make sure you have nice TITLE LINKs and DESCRIPTIONs that point to those pages. Put as many as you can without looking spammy.
Then when you are finished type in that URL and analyze in AUKDAT Keyword Density Tool
http://www.articleunderground.com/webmaster/keyword-density-tool.html
See what 2 and 3 word phrases are naturally occuring on your home page.
THEN try to make your home page rank for it’s PRIMARY KEYWORD PHRASE and make the SECONDARY PHRASES match the most used phrases in the report.
Build words around those PHRASES.
So if your home page DOMAIN NAME has a KEYWORD - use a phrase for that KEYWORD + whatever other KEYWORD PHRASES AUKDAt told you were predominant on your page.
Keep wirting sentnces and adding words till your keyword density for your TARGET words, primary and secondary are all around 1%.
Anywhere up to 3% should be fine.
A little under 1% is ok too.
Then make note of the PHRASES and start using those as your LINK TEXT for your home page.
LINK WITH WORDS that appear predominantly on your page so that you gain reputation for those words.

Mike - I have found the Keyword Density Tool to be much more than simply testing for keywords.
Once I have created a new page I run it through the tool to check everything from Title tags, Descriptions, Number of URLs on a page etc. This is one TOP tool and I use it often.
But as you say - Those Keyword Phrases are important for every article, so I had better…
As you have written yourself…
Keep wirting sentnces ;o)
Now what Keyword Phrase was that?
