News and information for online web publishing professionals!

I’m Going Web 2.0 with Squidoo

I’ve been quietly studying “web 2.0″ in the shadows, but am now coming to the surface and ready to add social bookmarking and web 2.o tactics to the training I provide here on my blog and at Article Underground and other projects in development.

The interesting thing for me about “web 2.0″ tactics is that it brings me back to the earliest days of the web (in 1995 for me) when the goal was to publish a web site with real valuable content. That was before we figured out that ranking on top of the search engines for a word could bring us boat loads of money.

Back then it was just TOO EASY to get top rankings than to have to be concerned about creating “valuable content”. As a result time shifted from writing to creating pages with the intention of ranking.

Ironically here we are 11 years later and the trend now is to go back to the basics and provide REAL VALUABLE content and “become an expert”. I’m happy that’s the case!

And you should be too as I’m certain that you are an expert on something!

In the days ahead I’ll be covering the new trends in traffic generation as well as unveiling some interesting projects. I can’t wait to tell you about them.

One of the most exciting Web 2.0 sites I have found is SQUIDOO (how do you say squidoo?).

I’ll be setting up more lenses in the future but for now added one on the Article Underground Content and Traffic System.

As you may already know, www.squidoo.com is brought to us by Seth Godin, one of the most vocal proponents of viral marketing tactics.

His blog is a treasure chest of valuable tips and sometimes even ground breaking thoughts and ideas.

You can also check out an Article Underground member’s lensmaster page at Squidoo.

Lynn is very creative at starting lenses with the intention of marketing products. Very smart way to get targeted traffic! Visit Lynn’s lenses and learn!

Starting a “lens” at Squidoo is a smart way to get some action for your real content web pages!

In fact - a smart tactic may be to create a new lens for every new TOPIC you cover on your web sites! If you have a Wordpress blog you can hook up your RSS Feed and it will show your POST LINKS! How’s that for a great way to get your deep inside article pages loved by the search engines - Squidoo is a PageRank 6 authority site with over 183,000 pages indexed!

If you just can’t wait to get educated on web 2.o I highly suggest grabbing Jack Humprey’s free special report Authority Black Book.

http://www.authorityblackbook.com/

I have to warn you it’s a little overwhelming as it is loaded with links that will sidetrack you and take you on journeys you did not plan on. I guess that’s good - but maybe a more efficent way would be to print his pdf and read it somewhere where you will NOT be able to click the links. I’m half serious saying this because Jack provides links to some fascinating web 2.0 web sites.

One web 2.0 site that will keep you glued for hours is

http://www.go2web20.net/

But I’m warning you - don’t click that link unless you have some spare time on your hands! That one site alone will take you on some crazy journeys!

Well - happy 2.0 surfing!

  1. Wow, thanks for the complimentary remarks, Mike. I’ll have to try and live up to them by making more lenses! Yes, Squidoo is exciting, and definitely made easier to do by being an Article Underground member. That’s partly because of the articles, which provide ideas, keywords and text for prospective lenses, and partly because of the knowledge gained at AU concerning linking and keyword phrases. And now you’ve joined up to Squidoo, we are already getting useful advice on how to maximize our traffic using it. Cool!

  2. Hi Mike

I have used Squidoo to great success to rank for some really competitive terms. All you need to do is put some real content, use variations of your mail keyword (no stuffing please).

Since this page itself will rank well, you need to remember to put some quality content and pre-sell rather than sell. Just set the stage, talk about the problems your product solves and then refer to your mail sales page. Bingo!

  3. Web 2.0 just means networking. Am I right?

Hello Mike. Great post as usual.

I have been following Squidoo for some time. It was always going to be a winner.

Time is always the issue for most of us. Although it could be worth losing some time off article directories and spend that precious time on Squidoo.

Find me someone who can do all the work without charging the earth, and I will be onboard!

There’s a lot of home business professionals in the same boat.

    Keep the good stuff coming.

    Sincerely,
    John Adams

  4. Dear Mike,

In case you didn’t get my email, I created a squidoo page
http://www.squidoo.com/xangoblog/ for my network marketing op., Xango…

…and will now place it as the link on a couple of network marketing articles.

However, I’m a little unsure as to where to go from there… and really, what’s the big deal?

My Squidoo page presently has a Pagerank 0…am I supposed to build that up? And if I do, all I can see is Squidoo picking up adsense…what’s really the benefit for me?

    Andrew
