It is really so difficult to catch “rewritten” content that I think Google just tolerates it. In an ideal world, you would have no plagiarism but let’s be honest: 99% content online is just rewritten by people looking at other sources. Just look at the volume of information online: It is a thousand times bigger than our collective knowledge. It is the same content rewritten and rewritten by everyone. It is bad but that’s the way it is. I am no fan of copied content but I cannot stop it either.

Hi Mike,

I added a contact directory to my blog that involved 100 separate blog posts to create the directory. The posts are all very similar. Ever since I added that my google rankings plummeted. I wasn’t spamming my own site, I was just trying to build a cool directory. How long will I be penalized by google.
