Over analysis paralysis - it happens to the best of us.
It is usually a result of information overload. I know all about it – it happens to me all the time!
The best way to get out of this rut is to take a step back and simplify what you do.
Spend your time on the tasks that bring you the greatest return.
9 times out of 10 a lot of what we spend time ANALYZING does not affect our bottom line. It’s nothing more than “busy work? that wastes time.
So how you get out of the over analysis paralysis mode???
The solution is to focus as much energy as is possible on doing the things that really makes us money.
It sounds so simple – but we all get distracted. Email – web pages – audio – video – all that stuff is vying for our attention.
I’m not suggesting you abandon all of the things you do – BUT _ what I am saying is that you can be more successful and you can do this by simply focusing on things that have been proven to work!
In the case of the Article Underground approach to web publishing the following are things that work!
1) Build Web Sites with lots of pages with great words on them – more is better! Keep sites fresh! Add new pages regularly! Every page you add is another income opportunity! If 10 is good 20 is better! Don’t just put up a few pages and then forget the site. Keep it fresh!
2) Get text links – lots of text links to both the home pages of your sites and the inside article pages that have all those great words on them! Links bring top rankings and traffic! You need fresh links! Today and in the future! Every page has the potential to rank on top and bring you traffic! But unless you get good links coming in and pointing at them they will never rise above the competition! Get some links!
3) Analyze stats to see where traffic comes from – this one is huge! Study your stats! It is my secret weapon and makes all your other work pay off HUGE!

This one is HUGE! You have the power to turn 10 visitors into 100 – often simply by getting a few more text focused links pointing at a page that already is ranking high enough to bring traffic. Make it rank higher! It’s easier than you may think!
The key to success is to avoid wasting time… stop analyzing things that have no impact on success.
Forget about all the other little time wasters and tiny trivial things and focus on what works!
For example - checking your rankings for a list of keywords just because you want to know their rankinsg is a waste of time - I say ONLY check rankings of keywords that bring you traffic - other keywords are worthless - stop wasting time on trivial things!
You find out which keywords bring you traffic by analyzing your stats and looking at the referral URLs!

Link Text - Breaking Patterns and Keeping Natural
To get a top ranking for a keyword phrase on Google and the other search engines, your web page should have that exact keyword phrase on the page itself PLUS it must have good links pointing at the URL (your web page).
If no links point to that URL - Google will assume it is a page with little or no value.
Taking this a step further - links are BEST when they have GOOD KEYWORDS in the LINK TEXT.
LINK TEXT : the text that is found within the LINK pointing at your web page.
A banner or image link is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but even better is a good text link.
When they see a text link with your keywords in the link text - it helps them to decide how they will rank you when poeple search for that keyword phrase.
Putting the right words on your web pages pages is a step in the right direction, but if Google NEVER sees any of those words in LINK TEXT, either on your site or as linked on other sites, there is very little chance they will rank you on top for any of those keywords.
The solution is to to find out what PHRASES and keywords are on your pages and do your best to get links to your page with the exact words.
HOT TIP: Use the AUKDAT Keyword Density Analyzer Tool to find out what single, 2 word and 3 word phrases appear on your web page. Simply enter a URL and AUKDAT will tell you the words that are on your page (and also show you which words could appear MORE OFTEN! ie if a KEYWORD PHRASE appears more than 2 times it is more likley to bring you traffic).

I’d like to discuss how ugly excessive patterns and machine like behavior can thwart your efforts to claim long term top rankings on Google and the other search engines. Patterns, Repetition and Footprints May Cause Penalties.
It’s important I share details with you about my opinion on how Google and the other search engines think so we can discuss how we can achieve greater success by anticipating how they will look at what we do.
I’ll make some suggestions that should help get you to the top and keep you there for a long time.

While it’s great to build lots of real content web sites with tons of relevant keywords on your web pages, it’s also very important that we are aware that there are filters and formulas that look for what Google and the other search engines may deem as un-natural spam-like behavior.
We need to be aware that if we aren’t careful to avoid repetitive spam-like patterns, that we may get penalized.
The penalty could be a slap on the wrist, or in severe cases could be much worse. Multiple vilations will increase the odds your page won’t be able to rise to the top.
Our goal as web publishers should be to build natural real content web sites that have real value for the visitors. Thanks to Article Underground member Aitch for bringing this great article by Dan Thies on Google Proxy Hacking to my attention. It explains what it is and how by getting proxy sites indexed with web content from our web sites, it gets them indexed by Google and therefor creates exact duplicate content. Google sees this and penalties and all kinds of problems may occur. mAINLY, THE PROXY OFTEN BUMPS YOU FROM YOUR TOP RANKINGS! oUCH!
I’ve had this happen with my sites in the past. In some cases when notified of the offending malicious proxy, Google removed them from their index. But this was only with intentional malicious indexing of hijacked content. Google still lets some of the proxy sites get a free pass and allows the content to be indexed.

PLR Articles: Similar Content or Exact Duplicate Content???
I just got an email asking if there was any profit potential with Article Underground PLR Articles because of “duplicate content penalties” causing problems with getting traffic.
Ahhhh…. looking at the galss half empty instead of half full… As I have said before - it’s all in the way you look at things.
When you change the way you look at things - the things you look at change!
Absolutely there can be profits using PLR articles! You can use the articles in many creative ways that will snag you targeted traffic that buys products or clicks!
You need WORDS on your web pages and lots of them IF you want lots of free search engine traffic! PLR articles can be a great way to build up web sites and create high value real content pages that people will want to visit!
PLR articles are great inexpensive tools you can use to build web pages that will bring your web site(s) more targeted traffic!
Not ALL PLR Articles are crap! Article Underground articles have real value to visitors. That’s what you should be concerned about. Will people be happy when they visit my web site?
It’s how you use PLR articles though that can help you get more traffic than the other guys who may be less fond of working. It’s not hard work even - it’s smart work that makes your web pages better than the Average Joe’s!
Using a PLR article on a web page is not in itself going to get you #1 on Google! It’s how you use the article to build a web page with good profitable words and real value for the visitors - you need to find your audience. You need good quality links pointing at the page!
There are variables that make one page better than another. Variables that make one web site more powerful and authoritative than others.
The best of us will find ways to make our web sites better.
So - what about duplicate content?? Isn’t it a problem?
There is a big difference bewtween SIMILAR content - such as pages incorporating PLR articles - an EXACT DUPLICATE CONTENT - such as identical pages.
I’ll share some info that you should find helpful and at the bottom I’ll include links to some further discussions. Dupe content is a hot topic!
First off, Article Undeground members join for a number of reasons. The articles may be one of them. There are many other features that are worth the price of the subscription. Links in the blogs may be enough! Also great research and tutorials and a killer private forum.
AU Members see value in many of the benefits. That is why I still have many members from back in Feb. of 2006. They stay members because they keep getting value.
Not all of the 350 AU members actually download each months zip. Generally it is about HALF.
Current - as of today - 24 days after the current sets were released - downloads are as follows:
April 16, 2007 Article set 1 - 127 of 350 downloaded
April 16, 2007 Article set 2 - 108 of 350 downloaded
And of those 108 that downloaded set 1’s 400 articles - not every member will use each one of the 400 articles in the zip. Even if they use MANY of the articles there is a good chance they will modify the articles at least a little. It pays to spend a little extra effort on tweaking.
Even if they do not modify, tweak or creatively use the articles (they do) - a duplicate or “syndicated article” does not in itself cause problems with Google. It depends on the application as to whether Google will want to index the page.
Also, there are a million and one ways to creatively use the articles. It’s too easy to midify them and make YOUR web pages more unique. It is a rare chance that 2 members will use an article in exactly the same way. It is rare that 2 web pages are identical. AU offers tutorials on how to customize articles and create unique web sites that have YOUR PERSONALITY stamped on them.
Duplicate Content can be looked at in several different ways. It’s not a death sentence in itself to have an article that someone else has on their web site - in fact - there is no reason to worry about posting a PLR or syndicated article on your web site - that in itself is not a problem. It’s SIMILAR CONTENT not an EXACT DUPLICATE web page.
That’s how newspaper sites do it when they syndicate their articles. There is no penalty as such against that.
So what kinds of so-called “duplicate content” are there out there???
1. Similar Content - PLR Articles - News Syndication - Original Articles on more than 1 site - (parts of a page are the same as pages on site or on other sites)
2. Exact Duplicates (same web pages 100% as others on site or off site)
3. Public Directory Article Syndication (when 1,000’s of people use the same exact articles unmodified and with the same author box and external text links - as in the case of goarticles.com and ezinearticles.com)
I’ll give you my take on each:
1. In the case of similar content with PLR articles or articles you have written and use on more than 1 site - there should be no concern. Use your own template or design your own web page for each site that will include an article. (continued - read more of this article…)

OK, I just looked at one of the newest Article Announcement blogs and noticed a member had posted some announcements and when I inspected the links and his site closer I noticed a couple of things about the sites pages and their chosen link text.
Let me say this first - I’ll capitalize it and then later after you read the whole article this will hopefully make sense:
PATTERNS can kill you! PATTERNS are GENERALLY NOT NATURAL. PATTERNS cause red flags and alerts! AVOID PATTERNS!
OK, so what did I notice on the announcement blog that prompted me to discuss the importance of avoiding patterns?
Well… I spotted a member who was announcing in a manner that prompted me to take a closer look at their web site.
So what did they do?
They linked using the Keyword Phrase the article was OPTIMIZED for AND that phrase was the ONLY WORDS in his page title and as far as I can tell the only phrase used in their link text on and off their site.
In the real world when poeple link to your web pages - they rarely use LINK TEXT containing your keywords, much less ALWAYS use the SAME EXACT PHRASE! This is a PATTERN my friends.
TIP: if you use the SAME EXACT link text ALL THE TIME it is very likely it will trigger an alarm for a human visit, or get reduced relevance credit or in the worst case the search engines (smart ones) will ignore the LINK TEXT.
It’s easy for the smarter search engines like Google to see patterns like this. Think about it - it’s not natural in the real world for a web page to have a high amount of links pointing at it with the same exact link text.
So why not help yourself by varying the link text at least a little???

It’s important to get high quality links pointing at our web pages.
Wouldn’t it be great to quickly at a glance see what the PageRank is of sites that link to our sites and/or pages?
Well, there are a few options to find out this kind of info. Some are online and some are applications.

Google says it listened - now showing improved backlinks data

It appears that Google may now be catching up with Yahoo and MSN as far as showing a more accurate picture as to what pages are linking to your web pages.

Google says: “You asked, and we listened: We’ve extended our support for querying links to your site to much beyond the link: operator you might have used in the past. Now you can use webmaster tools to view a much larger sample of links to pages on your site that we found on the web.”

Linking your articles properly on your own web site can make the difference between getting a good amount of traffic and getting jumbo sized boat loads of traffic from top rankings for all kinds of keywords, even the more competitive ones!
SECRET WEAPON REMINDER: MATCHING TITLES with LINK TEXT is very powerful!
I was recently asked by an Article Underground member how they can organize their sites so that visitors can find all the articles.
The first suggestion was proper use of CATEGORY MENU PAGES and proper use of article excerpts.
But does linking for a visitor and linking for a search engine have the same requirements?
Yes… more than you’d think!
This prompted further discussion on what kinds of text links are the best.
It made me realize once again that while PageRank is important and will help a page get top rankings, what is perhaps even more important than that is the surrounding text and relevance of the words on the linking page.
Google rewards for RELEVANCE!
It makes sense! Links from pages with the same/similar keywords should be counted as MORE RELEVANT links than a say an unrelated link for a TACO RECIPE coming from an ANTI-SPYWARE site.
Yes, it makes sense!
You can use this to help you organize your site so your visitors have a better experience with the bonus effect of showing Google that your linked pages are RELEVANT and deserve top rankings because if the linking page’s REPUTATION.

How many links can you put on ONE web page???
This question just came up in a discussion in the Article Underground Members Forum and I thought it’d be nice to share with you guys too.
The AUKDAT tool aka Keyword Density Analyzer , does a lot more than just tell you density of text.
One of the things AUKDAT does is give warnings on content and tag data. One such warning is when it analyzes a page that has MANY LINKS… TOO MANY LINKS…
This warning is just a friendly one, it is not based on science or fact.
So, when asked by an AU member if they should worry about their web pages having TOO MANY LINKS it made me think about it and suggest the following thoughts.
It has been generally accepted that web pages with more than 100 LINKS on it would piss off the search engines and cause a penalty.
This is NOT necessarily true as I have seen many sites that have MANY more LINKS than this that get high PageRank and enjoy top rankings.
BUT remember that one common thing most spammer sites employ is EXCESSIVE LINKING - both internal and external.
So your page CAN contain lots of links provided they are presented nicely and have a positive benefit for your visitors.
