Change Happens – Tumblr Edition
Change isn’t always good… sometimes it’s bad.
Hey, if you’re like me then you tend to get used to doing things a certain way, and when someone forces changes on you, it can be hard to accept and embrace those changes.
Well, this time in the change happens series we find Tumblr.com has made significant changes to their dashboard that dramatically impacts HOW you post and reblog and do things in Tumblr.
It’s not a simple change but rather a drastic one that forces new windows to open with a completely different layout. You have to click things and take extra steps to get things done that were previously simple and elegant.
That’s what made Tumblr so great. It was so simple and easy to reblog and post things.
Now it is harder.
Sure variety is good and yes even change can be good – but in the case of a good thing – I have learned do not mess with it!
DO NOT MESS WITH A GOOD THING!
if it aint broke don’t fix it!
Tumblr has messed with a good thing and it’s not just me as a lot of people are pissed off and complaining.
I found a thread on tumblr about the changes and just look at how many people are super mad about having to do things differently.
Maybe 1 in 20 will say something like it’s not that bad but most people are really annoyed.
How can a company with such a large loyal user base just force an interface on them that makes them spend time learning how and do things differently?
I don’t get it – but it is clear after a week a so we haven’t seen them roll it back or make any changes so it looks like we are stuck with the new tumblr dashboard and forced to work the way they want us to.

Avoid Poison Keywords and Sleazy Niches
Google watches some keywords more than they do others.
Their approach to wiping out low quality websites is based on what they have learned from collecting data and tweaking algorhithms for many years and seeing where the “webspammers” are most actively trying to trick them.
The main thing I have learned in my 15 + years of being a web publisher and building all kinds of websites for profit is that it’s generally better to focus on what I call “mid tier keywords” that are not as HYPER COMPETITIVE and as such commonly abused by SPAMMERS!
You know the poison niches… the keywords that can get you in trouble faster… the ones clogging your spam email box.
It’s much easier to get on top faster by avoiding those legacy big money keywords and instead profit by focusing on variations of those posion keywords or selecting keywords in different niches that are not so hot in the spamming community.
You must be aware that Google watches some keywords more than they watch others.
They watch the ones that spammers typically promote. You know the ones… they’re in your email box every day as spam messages. Try to stay away from promoting that stuff! They seek out spammers aggresively and it’s harder to rank for those keywords. So why bother?
There are so many good niches to build sites for with tons of great keywords that are profitiable and are NOT hammered by spammers.
And the mid tier keywords are much easier to rank for.
You do NOT NEED to do the BLACK HAT things that the webpsammers are doing to get lots of free traffic when you target mid tier keywords.
The Blogging Underground 12 Step Success Strategy focuses very heavily on picking the best keywords. It’s the real secret to our success!
Now – I am not saying you can’t be successful marketing more mainstream products or products that have even crossed over into ultra spammy territory – but you need to be aware that when you start to fight your battle in a zone filled with spammers you’re more likley to get caught up and tagged an an evil affiliate marketer.
Now – be careful you don’t fall into believing the common misconception that Google hates ALL AFFILIATES. They don’t.
But they sure do seem to hate affiliates that do sleazy things to make a buck.
They are perfectly fine with good marketers who are not building fake news blogs or using deceptive techniques to trick people and get sales.
Marketing legit good products as affiliates is not the same as hustling some online scams or bogus products that don’t deliver what is offered.
Hey – we’re not the same people Google were really mad at a year or so ago when the CPA offers got out of control and everyone was spamming them. You know – the fake news blogs that caused Google to get in trouble with the FTC over the false advertising and bogus practices promoting ridiculous cures and sleazy offers for Acai Berry Juice and all that other evil CPA stuff like offers that were impossible to cancel etc.
People were doing all kinds of sleazy stuff like using Oprah and Dr. Oz without their permission. It was way out ofcontrol and the U.S> goevernment stepped in and started getting involved. (continued – read more of this article…)
Good SEO is NOT about tricking Google!
SEO has gotten a bad name.
In reality it should be WEBSPAM that has the bad name.
SEO and WEBSPAM ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME although Google would sure like you to believe that!
I am not a spammer and don’t do spammy things to game them! I never have! That’s not the way I do things or teach other people to do.
Hey – I’m doing very well building good quality websites with quality content and I am getting lots of free search engine traffic from Google.
So are members at Blogging Underground and we’re not gaining success by TRICKING ANYONE or doing evil things!
It’s actually easier right now than ever before, because so many people have taken the wrong path and are actually working backwards in fear obeying the commands of the fearless leader because they are so paranaoid of doing things that Google doesn’t like.
They are doing things that Google is telling them that are good things to do.
Do you really think that it is in Google’s best interest to tell SEO webmaster type people how to get more traffic from their search engine for free?
Do you really believe that Google is giving advice that is helping webmasters get more top rankings faster and easier?
I don’t.
They have never liked people like us – you know – marketers – people that build web sites to get free search engine traffic and make money without buying ads.
Why would they help us with webmaster tools or otherwise?
THEY WOULDN’T and THEY’RE NOT!
OK – it’s about time I chime with an honest response to all the garbage info being passed around the webmaster world that SEO is dead and that Google has stopped people from getting top rankings from getting text links.
Some people are saying that the right way to win traffic from search engines is by playing the way that Google wants you to play – doing what they tell you to do. Obeying them.
And some people out there, many with no real world SEO experience getting a top ranking, are even trying to make you feel bad and telling you that you are trying to trick Google and doing evil things – just because you may have gotten a few links to your own sites and that is UN NATURAL… (continued – read more of this article…)

EMDs – Exact Match Domains are Still the Best!
Just a quickie to sound off on all the crazy rumours going around about “exact match domains” being dead and not working any more. It’s hogwash!
I guess some guru or WSO guy out there must have written a new $12. seo training course where they go off and dump on exact match domains not being effective – because I keep getting emails from people asking me what to do – if they should still get them etc.
YES EMDs still work! Exact match domains are as effective as ever to getting top rankings and traffic!
Exact match domains are still the prime virtual real estate that web publishers desire. Especially on .com .net and .org
How can a good domain name go out of style or stop working?
I’m scoring number ones on Google with brand new “exact match” keyword domains all the time – so are Blogging Underground members! I hear about it all the time!
In fact I feel it’s getting EASIER – not harder.
The worry about Google “cracking down” on exact match domains is NOT NEW. It seems too good to be true that EMD’s can help you get top rankings fast and easy!
For years I have heard rumors and gossip that this “crackdown on EMDs” will be coming but the fact is that the DOMAIN NAME is only one factor that Google looks at when they score the trustworthiness of a site.
Also – too many big companies and legitimate businesses have exact match domains.

Were you slapped by the Penguin?
Have you been slapped by Google and their nasty little Penguin Algorhitm Update???
Wasn’t everyone affected?
The thing is it seems the smaller guys out there got affected more than the big guys who’ve been gathering social buzz with all their big ad bufgets pulling in links and likes. It sucks they have an advanatge now.
BUT – don’t worry that the game is over. It’s not the end and you CAN get back on top above amazon, wikipedia and all those big corpoartions whose websites are now on top of a lot of search results on Google…
Just create good content and fight back! You need to go out there and get back on top!

Change is GOOD (but Damn that penguin!)
Hi, it’s Mike Liebner here with a few words on the ever changing SEO landscape.
There has been a lot of confusion and misinformation going around these days regarding changes Google has made to their search engine results. It started about a month ago with the deindexing of a lot of websites and once again the past week with new changes how Google is ranking websites in search results.
A lot of confused people are speculating about things that don’t have any real world proof of and are passing the info around as if it is factual.
Google loves when people pass around all kinds of bad intelligence because the NOISE helps make it more confusing for SEO type people to “manipulate Google” for top rankings.
It’s understanding to expect that Google wants to show good results, but the problem is that when major changes such as with this so called Penguin update affect so many legitimate websites and businesses, that people start to yell and scream and panic.
There are actually petitions being passed around to demand that Google do something to fix what they just did.
Good luck with that!

I suggest instead of hoping that someone else will FIX the problems you may have encountered that you accept a little responsibility and put some effort into finding out the solutions to any losses that you may have incurred from the algo changes.
Try to focus on what you know is really happening – ideally to you and your sites – and don’t make too many assumptions unless you see for yourself they are indeed fact based conclusions.
If you were impacted by the changes Google has been making I sincerely believe you can make changes and do some sensible things to get things back on track.
Now, first off – if you’re in this web publishing thing for the long haul, which I am, you need to adopt an attitude of confidence in your abilities to do better than most other people who plain and simple do not belong here.
We can beat them even IF the rules change. So do not give up.
Simply do what it takes to get back on top.
So what has happened? Has Google made changes to intentionally rub out small timers like you and me? Are they trying to favor the fat cat established authority sites and big corporations and edge out the little guys from the top of the search engines? (continued – read more of this article…)
